Veteran Realtor Says Hamilton NJ Housing Market Is Staying Strong
Township resident and Realtor Christine Barrett slowly drives down Collins Road and Fogarty Drive, pointing out all of the houses she’s sold on the street.
As she drives through the area, Barrett points to houses left and right that she’s sold. Some of the ones she points to, she says she’s sold more than once.
“There are probably 10 houses on Collins at least that I’ve sold through the years,” Barrett said.
Barrett, who has been a Realtor for 16 years, has been selling homes with RE/MAX Tri County for 15 years. Her expertise is the Hamilton area, she said.
Barrett said she first started to consider selling real estate when she purchased her first home on Fogarty Drive.
“The transaction process really amazed me.” she said.
But that wasn’t the first time she had a taste of real estate. Her father had sold real estate part time when she was little and actually sold her first house to her.
“I can recall being 10 or 12 years old and going on appointments with him,” Barrett said. “I really was intrigued by it.”
And when business started getting really busy for her father, Barrett stepped up.
Together, the two have helped more than 2,000 families reach their real estate goals, Barrett said.
Barrett said the market in Hamilton is pretty healthy, and while it was markedly slower over the last three to four years the mild winter last year helped things get back on track.
“In January, things took a turn for the better,” she said.
Barrett also said that buyers and sellers these days are more educated about the market.
“Interest rates are better than they’ve ever been,” she said. “And sellers are becoming more realistic. We’ve had three and four offers on a place when the house was priced right.”
Barrett said the average sale price of a home in Hamilton NJ is around $225,000, and the typical type of house in Hamilton is a split-level house or a Cape Cod-style house with three bedrooms and 1½ baths.
And the buyers and sellers in Hamilton range from first time home-buyers to people looking to upgrade or downsize, she said.
“A lot of people have bought houses before and are looking for that higher level house,” Barrett said. “And a lot of people are first-time home buyers that don’t mind putting some TLC into the home.”
A handful of people even took advantage of the market, Barrett said.
“They sold their house for less but then they bought a bigger house for less,” she said. “Plus, they got a good interest rate.”
Barrett and her father have listed and sold 25 houses in Hamilton this year, she said.And Barrett attributes her success to her connections.
“I know a lot of people in the area,” she said. “When I don’t have something scheduled, I drive around town and talk to people.”
And Barrett said the thought of helping people motivates her to put her all into her job.
And although Barrett said she works seven days a week, she said she still enjoys it.
“Every day I put my face on and my suit and I go forward,” she said.
